What is IELTS listening Test ?
The IELTS hearing test is the first part of the exam. This will take about 30 minutes, and you will have an additional 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer book.
The IELTS hearing test is designed to assess a wide range of listening skills, including how well you are involved-
- Understand key ideas and specific factual information.
- Identify the opinion, viewpoint and purpose of a speaker.
- Follow the development of an argument.
The test format is divided into 4 sections and a total of 40 questions.

A variety of functions are used, which are chosen from the following types:
- Multiple choice.
- Short answer questions.
- sentence completion.
- Form / note / summary / diagram / flow-chart /
- table completion.
- Diagram / planning / map labeling.

You can calculate your Band score by counting up your marks out of 40 and comparing them with the scores below:
- 18-22- Band 5.523-
- 25- Band 6.0
- 26-29- Band 6.5
- 30-31- Band 7.0
- 32-34- Band 7.5
- 35-36- Band 8.0
- 37-38- Band 8.5
- 39-40- Band 9.0
Universities in the US are expected to score a minimum of 6.5 in the IELTS exam. Now, here is a guide to the minimum IELTS score requirements for some of the top MS and MBA universities. Higher, but most B-schools will accept your admission with a minimum score of 6.5.
