Academic IELTS Examination

Listening and speaking test for each academic and general modules are an equivalent. Therefore, reading and writing section of academic may be a little more durable than the general one. The reading section will contain four questions, that have to answer in 60 min. there’ll be another 60 minutes for the writing section, where you have to write 2 essays. the primary question of writing will be pictorial, you’ll be provided with photos, graph or alternative visuals and you need to write an essay on it. For the second question, you have to write about the general topic.

IELTS General training

The General training is easier and easier than the academic IELTS. However, the queries are within the same format.

The four components of the IELTS test

  • Listening: 30 minutes (plus ten minutes’ transfer time)
  • Reading: 60 minutes
  • Writing: 60 minutes
  • Speaking: 11–14 minutes

The test total time is: a pair of 2 and 45 minutes.

Listening, reading and writing are completed in a single sitting. The Speaking check could also be taken on a similar day or up to seven days before or once the opposite tests.

All candidates take an equivalent listening and speaking test, whereas the reading and writing test depends on whether or not the candidate is taking the academic or general training version of the test.


Test takers receive a score for every test component – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Individual scores are then scored to form an average and an overall band score.

Band scale

The IELTS scores are given on a scale of one to nine (0 for people who fail to require the check entirely) for every section of the check – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The scores are often whole numbers, or half-bands, i.e. 5,6,7,8, etc. or 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, etc.

There is no pass or fail. IELTS is scored on a nine-band scale, with each band corresponding to a such as ability in English. Overall Band Scores are reported to the closest 0.5 band.

Reading is the second part of the IELTS Exam and takes 60 minutes. It consists of 3 or 4 reading passages of increasing difficulty, and there are a total of 40 questions to answer


IELTS Writing

IELTS Writing Test lasts for 60 minutes, and you will need to complete 2 writing tasks, each of which requires different text types (description, report, text, discussion, argument, opinion)
